A greener Hertfordshire under Lib Dem Leadership! Lib Dems deliver 113,000 new trees.

Hertfordshire is set to become greener and leafier than ever thanks to the Lib Dem-run County Council, which has confirmed it will plant a massive 113,000 new trees this year.

This ambitious achievement crushes the original target of 101,000 and marks a decisive break from the past, planting an astonishing 25,000 more trees than the former Tory administration managed last year. This is the Liberal Democrat difference: we don't just set targets—we smash them!

From Local Action to National Ambition: We Deliver.

This huge local effort in Hertfordshire directly underpins the Liberal Democrats' serious national commitment to tackling the climate emergency and restoring nature. While other parties talk about vague goals, the Lib Dems are proving here, on the ground, that we can put our environmental pledges into immediate, effective action.

Our national commitment is to double nature and double woodland cover by 2050—and the work in Hertfordshire, beating targets and empowering residents, is a major, tangible step towards delivering that promise.
The Lib Dem Difference: Measurable Success vs. Empty Promises

The Hertfordshire achievement highlights the Liberal Democrat strength in practical, measurable local delivery and resident empowerment. We believe in making real change happen today, not just setting abstract long-term goals.

Crucially, the Lib Dem-led council is focused on DELIVERY, not excuses. We are outperforming targets by planting 113,000 trees, which is 25,000 more than the previous Tory administration managed last year. Where the Tories had a slower pace and missed opportunities to involve the community, the Lib Dems are actively EMPOWERING residents, giving away 94,000 free trees through the 'Your Tree, Our Future' scheme. This commitment means immediate, visible success that directly engages thousands of residents in the fight against climate change.

Putting Power in Residents' Hands with FREE Trees

The heart of this local initiative is the massive expansion of the popular ‘Your Tree, Our Future’ scheme, which gives saplings free to residents to plant in their own gardens, directly empowering local people to fight climate change right where they live.

A staggering 94,000 of these free trees have already been handed out.

Thousands of people enthusiastically collected their trees across Hertfordshire this past -a true community movement made possible by Lib Dem leadership!

Professional guidance is also being provided to help ensure these trees thrive, turning local enthusiasm into lasting environmental gain.

Making Our Public Spaces Greener
The council isn't stopping at gardens. The council are also providing trees for public and community spaces, including:

Highway verges
Community orchards
Enhancing vital hedgerows
Creating new woodlands

The council are also proactively supporting local groups through Environmental Improvement Grants, providing landowners with funding and expert advice to deliver crucial habitat creation and enhancement projects right across the county.

A Promise Made, A Promise Kept!

This major investment in tree-planting proves that when Liberal Democrats take control, we deliver on our promises. Since taking over in May, we have made the protection and enhancement of Hertfordshire’s local environment a top priority.

Cllr Paul Zukowskyj, the Lib Dem Cabinet Member for Environment, championed the success:
“We are determined to make Hertfordshire a better and greener place to live. That’s why we’ve striven to beat our ambitious target for 101,000 new trees in this financial year - and succeeded!

“Trees bring essential benefits: they trap carbon, clean our air, and increase biodiversity. By enlarging the Your Tree, Our Future scheme, we are enabling even more Hertfordshire residents to play their part in this vital environmental work.

“It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm from the public this weekend. I want to sincerely thank the dedicated staff, volunteers, borough, and district councils who helped make this year’s project the most successful ever.”

The council are hoping to take the project even further in 2026/27 and have teamed up with Watford FC to help fund the project through a donation from the sale of away shirt. Enabling the council to expand the reach of the programme and continue delivering environmental improvements across parks, residential areas and public highways.

Vote Lib Dem for Action on the Environment
The Liberal Democrats are committed to delivering a greener, more sustainable future in all our communities. This local success shows exactly what we can achieve when we have the mandate to act.
