Liberal Democrats Welcome New FarmersAid App to Tackle On-Farm Safety Crisis

Sarah Dyke MP- Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs Spokesperson, has thrown her support behind a new, life-saving smartphone application launched by the rural charity Rabi (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution) to address agriculture’s persistent safety record.

The FarmersAid app is designed as a long-term initiative to strengthen emergency preparedness across the agricultural community.

​Addressing Rural Isolation and High Fatality Rates

​While agriculture accounts for just 1% of the nation's workforce, it represents nearly 20% of all workplace fatalities. The isolated nature of farming means that when accidents occur, emergency services often face delays in reaching remote locations, turning potentially manageable injuries into life-threatening emergencies.On average, 31 people die on British farms each year and thousands more are left with life-changing injuries.

​To combat this, the free-to-download app provides real-time, step-by-step guidance for the 10 most common and serious on-farm accident scenarios. These include:

​Severe bleeding

​Crush injuries

​Falls from height

​Machinery incidents

​Livestock-related injuries

​Medical collapse following trauma

​A Vital Tool for Rural Communities

​Sarah Dyke MP, the Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs Spokesperson, praised the initiative following its launch, emphasising the critical gap the technology fills in remote areas.

Coming from a farming backfired, Sarah ​Dyke MP is very aware if the practical challenges faced by agricultural workers during high-stress medical emergencies, noting how crucial immediate, clear instructions can be in the field:
